Your answers never leave your device

The calculator is code that runs in your browser. Your answers are processed there and never sent to us, to our analytics providers, or to anyone else. They aren't saved between visits: refreshing or closing the page clears them.

The printable report and calendar file are generated on your device too. Calendar reminders use neutral wording by default so they don't reveal anything if someone else sees your calendar.

Analytics

Cloudflare Web Analytics (always on, no cookies)

Our host, Cloudflare, counts visits with a small script that doesn't use cookies or store anything on your device, and doesn't identify you. It reports totals such as which pages were viewed, which site sent the visit, the visitor's country, and the type of browser and device.

Google Analytics (cookies only if you allow them)

We use Google Analytics with Google's Consent Mode. Its script loads on every page, and what it does depends on your choice:

  • Before you choose, or if you choose "No thanks": no cookies are set. When you view a page, Google receives limited signals without cookies, such as the page, the time, and basic browser and device details. These can't be linked across your visits, and Google uses them to estimate overall traffic.
  • If you choose "Allow": Google Analytics sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_…) that recognise repeat visits for up to two years. It receives the pages you view, how you arrived, your approximate location, and your device and browser type. Google states that Google Analytics 4 doesn't log or store IP addresses.

Either way:

  • It never receives your calculator answers or results. They aren't included in page addresses and aren't sent as events.
  • Google's advertising features are off (advertising cookies, Google signals and ad personalisation), so this data isn't used to target ads at you.

You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page. Choosing "No thanks" deletes Google Analytics cookies and switches it back to the cookie-free mode described above. Google's handling of this data is covered by itsprivacy policy.

Cookies and storage

  • If you allow analytics: the Google Analytics cookies described above.
  • If you don't: no cookies at all.
  • Either way, your browser's local storage keeps a note of your choice so we don't ask again.

What we don't do

  • No advertising, and no selling or sharing of data
  • No accounts or sign-ups
  • Fonts are served from this site, not from third-party font services

Server logs

Like any website, the servers that deliver these pages may keep standard technical logs, such as IP address, browser type and the page requested, for security and reliability. These logs never include anything you enter in the calculator.

Links to other sites

We link to health organisations such as CDC, WHO and UNAIDS. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.
